"Beyond High School"
A College Fair Targeting African Immigrants and Refugees

We are so glad that you are considering volunteering your time for this very exciting event. The event planning is well underway and we have identified a need for volunteers in areas critical in making this event a success.

Below are the job descriptions on areas which require volunteer participation. You are allowed to volunteer in more than one area.

1.     Community Outreach
Spread the word in the community. Recruit students and their parents to come to the fair. Organizing speaking opportunities for CWAA staff to have opportunity to elaborate on the fair and respond to any questions community members and potential participants may have.

2.     Procurement
Help solicit items to be given out as raffle prizes. Suggestions include, groceries gift cards, computer software, tickets to games, etc.

3.     Food
Assist the catering team with the set up, serving and clean up. Make sure the service is well coordinated and the food is served within the allotted time.

4.     Logistics/Set up
Assist in preparing the hall for the fair. Existing furniture must be cleared before set up. In the past, this process has taken no less than 30 minutes. Prepare the room where information sessions will be held. Assign tables to the college recruiters.

5.     Registration
Make sure people sign in upon arrival.

6.     Greeters
Greet families and assist them with questions they may have. Hand out the program and guide questions, make sure they signed in, help them navigate their way around the booths, make sure interpreter is assigned once need is identified and answer questions they may have. We encourage the team from the community outreach to be available as greeter so that participants see a familiar faces when they come in. Bilingual college age students are highly encouraged to fill this position!
